કરું કરું સાફ મેલ, તોય મેલ તો ચડતો જાય

નિત્ય ઘસી સાફ કરું, કાટ તો તોય ચડતો જાય
જનમોજનમથી ચાલ્યો આ ક્રમ, માનવી અંતે થાકી જાય
તરસ્યો આનંદનો જીવ, ક્ષણિક આનંદ પાછળ દોડી જાય
સાચું જળ એ તો ભૂલી, મૃગજળ પાછળ તો દોડી જાય
જનમોજનમથી ચાલ્યો આ ક્રમ, માનવી અંતે થાકી જાય
આગળ પાછળ, ફરી ગોળ ગોળ, ત્યાંનો ત્યાં રહી જાય
ધ્યેય તો નક્કી ના કર્યું, ધ્યેયને તો ક્યાંથી પમાય
જનમોજનમથી ચાલ્યો આ ક્રમ, માનવી અંતે થાકી જાય
વિકારોના ખેંચાણમાં ઘાયલ બની, શક્તિ ગુમાવતો જાય
ખુદનું લોહી ચાખી એ તો, લોહીમાં સંતોષ પામતો જાય
જનમોજનમથી ચાલ્યો આ ક્રમ, માનવી અંતે થાકી જાય
હૈયું ઝંખે સદાયે શાંતિ, યત્નો અશાંતિના થાતા જાય
મળે શાંતિનો જ્યાં આરામ, શાંતિ એ તો ના સમજાય
જનમોજનમથી ચાલ્યો આ ક્રમ, માનવી અંતે થાકી જાય
કરુણા કેવી છે આ જગની, ખોટાને પણ સાચું માનતો જાય
યત્નો કરી કરી થાકે એ તો, યત્નોથી તો રહે ફુલાઈ
જનમોજનમથી ચાલ્યો આ ક્રમ, માનવી અંતે થાકી જાય
કરુણા ના ઊતરે જગનિયંતાની, ક્રમ આ ચાલ્યો રહે સદાય
કરુણાળી તું કરુણા કરી, હવે મૂકજે ત્યાં તું પૂર્ણવિરામ

In this bhajan, he is talking about useless directionless efforts that we are making life after life, which has no results or meaning and we keep on wandering in the cycle of life and death.
He is saying...
After removing and removing dirt (impurities) from within, still the dirt keeps on accumulating.
Regularly, I rub it and clean it, still the rust is accumulating.
This sequence of cleaning and cluttering is occurring since many lives. Ultimately, it will make a man tired.
Thirsty for joy, this human runs behind only transient happiness,
Forgetting real water, he runs behind mirage, the illusion of water.
Moving ahead and then backwards and circling round and round, makes him remain in the same spot.
If the goal is not defined then how can goal be reached.
This sequence is occurring since many lives. Ultimately, it will make him tired.
Stretching towards all disorders, he gets wounded and loses the strength.
And in self obsession, he remains satisfied only by himself.
Heart is longing for peace always, but efforts are made only for distress.
Eventually, if he gets peace and quiet, that tranquility is not understood.
This sequence is occurring since many lives. Ultimately, it will make him tired.
Kindness of this world is such that, he believes unreal to be real, his efforts are tiring him, and making him arrogant.
This sequence is occurring since many lives. Ultimately, it will make him tired.
Compassion will not be showered by the Divine, the controller of the world, if this sequence continues.
O Divine, shower the grace to stop this sequence of no order.
Kaka is explaining how all of us take one step forward and two steps back in any kind of progress. Despite many many efforts, we go back to our sordid state again and again.
We dust ourselves from clutter of thoughts, actions and emotions, but our inherent nature is such that we go back to being cluttered. We reach the stage of awareness, and with slight instigation, go back to our ignorant state. Ascending steps taken are followed by descending steps. Therefore, kaka is asking us to pray to Divine as everything is dependent on this prayer to shower grace upon us to put an end to this order of disorder. And bring us closer to the ultimate goal of union with Divine.
