સંહારવા અસુરોને મા, બની તું રણચંડી

પોષવા જગને તો મા, બની તું શાકંભરી
મારવા મહિષાસુર મા, બની તું મહિષાસુરમર્દિની
ચંડમુંડને મારવા મા, બની તું ચંડી ચામુંડા
રક્તબીજને મારવા `મા' બની તું કાળી કરાળી
દીધું બુંદે બુંદે રક્ત તેનું `મા' તુજમાં સમાવી
પૂરવા આશાઓ જગની મા, બની તું આશાપુરી
વ્યવહાર જગનો ચલાવવા, બની તું લક્ષ્મી કૃપાળી
જ્ઞાન જગને આપવા મા, બની તું સરસ્વતી

To slay demons, Divine Mother, you became Ranchandi (warrior).
To nurture the world, Divine Mother, you became The Nourisher.
To kill Mahisasur (demon), Divine Mother, you became Mahisasurmardini (destroyer).
To kill Chand-Munda (demons), Divine Mother, you became fierce Chamunda (fiercely angry form of Divine Mother).
To kill Raktabeej (demon) , Divine Mother, you became Kali Karaali (ferocious form of Divine Mother with black face and protruding red tongue, Maa Kali). And devoured the blood in her.
To fulfil expectations of this world, Divine Mother, you became Ashapuri (The Giver).
To operate functions of this world, Divine Mother, you became Gracious Laxmi (Goddess of prosperity).
To give knowledge to the world, Divine Mother, you became Saraswati (Powerhouse of Knowledge).
To kill Tripurasur (demons), Divine Mother, you became Tripurasundari.
To kill Bhasmasur (demon), Divine Mother, you became Jagmohini (The enchantress ).

All demons are symbolic of Negative forces of humans and Divine Mother is symbolic of intense Divine Energy to combat the Negative forces. Demon Mahisasur symbolises our giant ego, Raktabeej actually represents our never ending desires and obsessions, Bhasmasur represents anger which burns everything around us in ashes, Shumbh-Nishumbh represents clogged mind, where no peace or progress is possible. Only one Shakti (power), Divine Mother (our Divine energy) that is powerful enough to slay such deep rooted vile human nature. The battle between demons and Divine Mother represents our internal battle of good over evil. Our internal conflict, our internal reflection and introspection.
