સ્વાર્થે સ્વાર્થે સ્વપ્ન તો તણાતું ગયું
કદી હૈયાને નજદીક એ ખેંચી લાવ્યું
સ્વાર્થે હૈયાને તો ક્યાં ને ક્યાં ભગાડયું
રહ્યું સદા સુખની શોધમાં, સુખકાજે રહ્યું તડપતું
સ્વાર્થમાં છે સુખ સમજી, સ્વાર્થે રહ્યું તણાતું
સ્વાર્થે આશા ખૂબ જગાવી, આશામાં ગયું રાચી
સ્વાર્થે સ્વાર્થે ટકરાતા, સ્વપ્ન તો ચૂર થયું
સ્વાર્થરહિત છે પ્રભુ, અંતે એ તો સમજાયું
ચરણે જાતા એના, સુખશાંતિ ત્યાં એ પામ્યું

In this Gujarati bhajan,Pujya Kakaji is saying…
No other heart can become mine and my heart cannot become anyone’s, when there is selfishness in the heart.
With every interaction, the pillars of hope rises, but with all the prevailing selfishness, the dream gets pulled away.
Sometimes, it brings the hearts closer, but the selfishness drives them away.
The heart remains in search of happiness, and it keeps yearning for happiness.
Happiness is in selfishness, under that pretext it keeps drowning.
The selfishness creates a big hope and the heart keeps dwelling in such hope.
Upon clashing of selfishness, the dream crushes to pieces (one gets disheartened).
The selfless is only Divine, this is eventually understood. Surrendering to Him only gives the heart peace and calm.
Kaka is explaining that in this world, any relationship is created with selfishness in the heart, selfishness in the mind, and selfishness in the behaviour. Such relationships will give a momentary high of happiness and again, it will bring the low of disappointment and despair. Self indulgent, self motivated and self centric behaviour in oneself or in others will bring no love, no respect and no peace. In this world, only God is selfless and the true relationship with God brings one peace and calm in life.
