Explanation in English
In this Gujarati bhajan,
He is saying...
A hungry cares for food, and a thirsty cares for water.
Divine Mother always cares for her children.
A royal cares for his kingdom, and a renouncer cares for his detachment.
A scholar cares for knowledge, and meditator cares for his meditation.
A fighter cares for his battlefield, and a pleasure seeker cares for his pleasure.
An ascetic cares for his penance, and a devotee cares for his devotion.
A greedy cares for his greed, and a benefactor cares for his charity.
A leader cares for his stage, and an actor cares for applause.
A lustful person cares for his lust, and a woman cares for her ornaments.
In the cold, one cares for heat, and in the heat, one cares for a shade.
A confused cares for direction, and a drowning person cares for a boat.
Everything is needed by the human, no one knows when what will be liked and cared about.
Kaka is explaining that our desires, wants and needs keep changing all the time as per our own fancies and juggling thoughts and our own character. A human nature is such that he is always in fancy of something or the other. Our inherent qualities are so deep rooted that we get drawn by them without realization. Kaka is urging us to develop self control, self restraint and self discipline to actually have a fulfilling life.
