वह सिखा गया इन्सान तुझे, बना इस तरह तेरा तू जीवन।
कीचड़ से बाहर आकर, अलिप्त रहकर, निकला जैसे कमल
रंग काला होते हुए भी, करती रही कोयल तो मीठी गुंजन।
फिरते-फिरते खूब फेरे, रहा वही का वही, जग में तो घानी का बैल
सागर तो बना रहा है, सुख-दुःख की, भरती ओट, करनी पड़ेगी सहन।
तेरा नाखून बता रहा है, तुझे तेरा होते हुए भी, है तुझसे अलग,
देना है प्रकाश जग को, दीपक जला कर के बता गया, तुझे जग कारण जलना पड़ेगा।
जब तैरना है इस संसार में, नाव तैर कर सीखा गई, जल ऊपर तुझे उठना पड़ेगा।
उठने का आनंद लेना है जब जग में, बंधन तोड के, पंख फैलाना पडेगा।

vaha sikhā gayā insāna tujhē, banā isa taraha tērā tū jīvana।
kīcaḍa़ sē bāhara ākara, alipta rahakara, nikalā jaisē kamala
raṁga kālā hōtē huē bhī, karatī rahī kōyala tō mīṭhī guṁjana।
phiratē-phiratē khūba phērē, rahā vahī kā vahī, jaga mēṁ tō ghānī kā baila
sāgara tō banā rahā hai, sukha-duḥkha kī, bharatī ōṭa, karanī paḍa़ēgī sahana।
tērā nākhūna batā rahā hai, tujhē tērā hōtē huē bhī, hai tujhasē alaga,
dēnā hai prakāśa jaga kō, dīpaka jalā kara kē batā gayā, tujhē jaga kāraṇa jalanā paḍa़ēgā।
jaba tairanā hai isa saṁsāra mēṁ, nāva taira kara sīkhā gaī, jala ūpara tujhē uṭhanā paḍa़ēgā।
uṭhanē kā ānaṁda lēnā hai jaba jaga mēṁ, baṁdhana tōḍa kē, paṁkha phailānā paḍēgā।

The sandalwood after being rubbed and rubbed gives the world its fragrance and coolness,
It teaches us humans to make our life like that.
Just as lotus blooms in the dirt and mud and remains aloof from the muck, it teaches us humans…
Though black in colour, the cuckoo hums melodiously, it teaches us humans…
Just as an ox circles round and round to remove oil from the grains, but remains there and there, it teaches us humans…
Just as the ocean has low and high tide, similarly we will have to bear the joys and unhappiness in life.
Our nails tell us that even though they are our own yet separate from the rest of the body.
Just as lamp gives light to the world, the lamp has taught us that we will have to burn like the lamp for the world.
When we want to swim in the worldly affairs, the boat taught us that we will have to rise above the worldly waters.
When you want to be in the joy of the awakening in the world, you will have to break the bondage and spread your wings.
